Exploitation of Ocean resources

An opportunities for Indian Entrepreneurs

For Entrepreneurs, Students, Defense professionals

Objective & Background of the seminar

The aim of the seminar is to spread awareness to the audience on India’s Maritime Heritage on the one hand and to bring the Indian Entrepreneur face to face with the organizations dealing with Under Water or Marine activities to initiate an understanding and ensure the industries participation in manufacture and repair of specialized equipment and machinery hitherto acquired through import.

Exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons from seabed is a huge technological challenge. Ever since ONGC went offshore in early 70’s and discovered a giant oilfield in the form of Mumbai High, India has made rapid progress in underwater technology. Geologists have developed micro-specialization in deep water exploration of oil and gases with the help of seismic technology. Underwater drilling techniques have advanced.

Subcommittee of Underwater Technology, under aegis of MCCIA Pune, and in association with Indian Maritime Foundation (IMF) – a self supporting NGO – is putting in efforts to develop awareness about oceans and marine environment in students, entrepreneurs and general public by conducting seminars and contacting schools / colleges. Besides seminars, the Underwater Technology subcommittee is also in process of compiling some information in form of a book, to introduce in Engineering Colleges as introduction to Ocean Sciences. It is being felt that a lot of conscious efforts are needed in this direction for achieving the desired goal.
